In the Garden of the Dreaming Empress

Easter 2026

A week from right now I'll be upstate visiting my parents - and possibly on my way back to their house from a show in Orlando. Looking forward to another day of PTO even though a significant chunk of that day will be spent on the road. And it'll be good to see my folks again before they head out on their own adventures north of here.

I spent most of my day doing planner upkeep, some personal organization, and starting to plot out my course of action for renewing my passport. I waited too long and my passport expired just outside of that 15-year window (has it really been so long since I traveled internationally! Turkey feels like a dream now.) so I will have to jump through some hoops, but I will take advantage of the extra bureaucratic chaos to magick my passport approval process to be as quick and as smooth as possible.

Most of the day was also spent smelling a corned beef in the slow cooker... it's funny how my folks and I usually wind up making the same kinds of things for dinner within a week of each other, if not on the same day. I know corned beef is supposed to be for a totally different holiday, but oh well. They're cheaper after St. Patrick's anyway! IMG_2936

On the evening of the 2nd, after work, I went downtown for a 5K with my coworkers. I totally lucked out with a parking spot right across the street from the venue that I didn't have to pay for, and I actually had a great time. I walked the whole thing at a good clip and it was really nice to notice that I didn't feel totally destroyed afterwards like I have in years past. The funny thing about incremental practices like exercise is how the results sneak up on you... and then I proceeded to skip two tai chi classes in a row while I recuperated - even though I probably should have gone. I'm going to practice tomorrow on my lunch break so that I don't show up on Tuesday night with an empty head.
